Walloby Mr. Christmas Tree Lesson Plan

When I was a kid, I remember reading "Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree" by Robert Berry. First published in 1963, this story is beautiful story of how a Christmas tree was too high and thrown away. In history there are many people and creatures of this small tree discarded, provided a home for them, but once breached, as it is too big for their homes. In the end, a mouse who lived in the house of Mr. Wallowby excited, a Christmas tree to get only as MrWallowby!

The lesson: if I designed a lesson for the kids, I thought this would be a perfect story of recycling in order to strengthen the exchange of power and give away unwanted things during the Christmas period. That "trash" someone Maybe someone has the "treasure". We must be aware of what we throw away. While the story ask the following questions to think about them and the interaction:

What happens to things when he goes in the trash? The goal is to understand that is largernot only the trash and a truck picks it up. Explain the trash is on a landfill and the length of time spent sitting with decomposition.

What are the things that we "save" instead of throwing it away? Let the children know you think of things to recycle well. egg cartons, cardboard, glass, cans good examples.

What you need with other people, no longer enjoy or share, is it possible? The goal is to have the children think about the things around herHouse can not do. For example, when a friend of Barbie dolls Barbie dolls might not like more, instead of throwing them away, give to his friend.

The Craft

Since it was Christmas, we decided to make the bells from egg shells. I told the kids that just like the animals in the story, we take something that does not need to decorate can cut and turn it into something to benefit someone else.

WhatYou need:

Old egg cartons
Scissors
String or pipe cleaners
Jingle bells or bells
Glitter
Craft Paint

Preparation: The egg carton into separate cups. With the tip of scissors or a sharp pencil, poke a hole in the bottom of each cup. Before the bell cord and color printing on both ends through the hole in the bottom of the cup. Tie at the top. As long as the hole is even smaller than the bell, the bell andJingle.

Garnish each bowl as desired. Glitter mix the paint for a quick color glossy effect or simply sprinkle the glitter on the cup. before covering with the cups, the bell is much easier to move and move during drying.

Eventually, the children have their bells and could not wait until they hang up their trees and doorknobs in the house. I was glad that my favorite story was passed along to enjoy with other children.
